{"id":845,"date":"2013-09-03T20:55:21","date_gmt":"2013-09-03T20:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innerquests.netstorms.org\/?p=845"},"modified":"2013-09-03T20:55:21","modified_gmt":"2013-09-03T20:55:21","slug":"what-is-more-deadly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/innerquests.chidakasha.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/09\/03\/what-is-more-deadly\/","title":{"rendered":"What is More Deadly?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A friend on Facebook posted:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What&#8217;s more deadly, a gun or a thought?\u00c2\u00a0A gun gives the opportunity but its the thought that pulls the trigger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I replied by quoting:\u00c2\u00a0Matthew 5:20-22<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>20 For I say unto you that unless your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.21 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Ye have heard that it was said by them of old, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcThou shalt not kill,\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWhosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.\u00e2\u20ac\u212222 But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcRaca,\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 shall be in danger of the council; but whosoever shall say, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcThou fool,\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 shall be in danger of hell fire.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I think that Jesus did not mean &#8216;hell fire&#8217; in any literal sense; he meant hell in the sense of a mental\/emotional state. True non-violence is not just abstaining from violent acts but also from violent thoughts. There is a Zen Buddhist story that illustrates this sense of being in emotional hell:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A samurai asks a master monk to teach him about heaven and hell. The monk immediately slaps the samurai! Enraged, the samurai draws his sword and chases the monk around the room, intent on killing him. Finally cornering the monk, the samurai\u00e2\u20ac\u201dface still contorted in rage\u00e2\u20ac\u201draises his sword for the killing blow\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153That!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d says the calm monk, pointing to the samurai\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s anger-flushed face, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153is hell!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d In a flash, anger flees from the samurai\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s face, replaced by confusion. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153And that,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d declares the monk triumphantly, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153is Heaven.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The thought, actually habits of thought, lead to action, to a will to kill. A gun or any weapon is a manifestation of that will, a symbol and a tool of that will; in a sense the weapon is the thought.
